Dangote Cement is Nigeria’s largest listed company by market value, so its share price is watched closely. Many investors only look at the number on the screen, but the price alone says little. What matters is how it got there, what you are paying for each naira of earnings and how much it can move. This article gives a snapshot of where DANGCEM traded in October 2026, explains the key figures and shows what a price chart can and cannot tell you.

Where the price stands

DANGCEM closed at ₦1,066.70 on 2 October 2026, according to NGX price data on AFX, and several data pages showed the same figure through the first week of October. One aggregator quoted ₦1,035 on 9 October, with a previous close of ₦1,066.70. The company’s market value was reported at about ₦17.7 to ₦18 trillion, based on roughly 16.87 billion shares. Prices on these sites can be delayed, so use your broker or the NGX for the live figure.

The price journey

  • 2010: the stock listed at ₦135 in October 2010, according to a 2024 report.
  • Early 2024: it rose past ₦370 for the first time, a level it had never exceeded since listing, and reached ₦763 in February 2024.
  • March 2025: about ₦480 per share, with a market value above ₦8 trillion.
  • Start of 2026: about ₦609.
  • May 2026: a peak of about ₦1,180 to ₦1,189, depending on the data provider.
  • 30 June 2026: ₦963, after a 10 percent fall in a single day on 24 June.
  • 30 September 2026: ₦1,066.70, up 10.8 percent over the third quarter.

From ₦609 to ₦1,066.70 is a gain of about 75 percent in nine months. The price is also roughly 10 percent below its May peak. A price that has risen this fast can also fall fast, and DANGCEM has shown both.

Key figures to understand

  • Earnings per share (EPS): ₦59.86 for 2025, up from ₦29.74 in 2024, and ₦38.22 for the first half of 2026. Trailing 12-month EPS is shown as about ₦67 on data sites.
  • Price-to-earnings (P/E): about 15.8 using trailing earnings, according to TradingView. Annualising the half-year EPS gives about 14. A lower P/E means you pay less per naira of earnings, but it does not mean the stock is cheap.
  • Dividend yield: ₦45 divided by ₦1,066.70 is about 4.2 percent. The yield falls when the price rises faster than the dividend.
  • Market capitalisation: price multiplied by shares in issue. It is a measure of company size, not a signal to buy.

How volatile is it?

An independent report puts the stock’s annualised volatility at 35.6 percent, with a beta of 1.37 against the NGX All-Share Index, which means it has tended to move more than the market. A 10 percent fall in a day, as in June 2026, is a reminder that a large company’s shares can still swing sharply. Free float is also small. MarketScreener lists it at about 11 percent, since a major shareholder holds most of the shares, and that can make prices react strongly to relatively modest trading.

Analyst targets: treat with care

Aggregators show analyst price targets ranging from about ₦1,078 to ₦1,360. These are opinions that can be wrong and change without notice. They are not predictions you can rely on.

What the price does not tell you

A rising price does not prove a good investment, and a falling price does not prove a bad one. Look at earnings, cash flow, dividends and your own time horizon. Our articles on what moves the share price and on dividends explain those factors in more detail.

What we could not confirm

  • The live price when you read this. Data pages differ slightly and lag.
  • Why the price fell 10 percent on 24 June 2026. I found no published explanation.
  • Future price direction. Targets and trends are not forecasts.

Frequently asked questions

Is a high share price expensive? Not by itself. A share price of ₦1,000 and a company with 16.87 billion shares is compared by earnings and market value, not by the number on the screen.

Why does the price sometimes not change for days? Quoted prices on the NGX are set by trades and by the exchange’s price-movement rules, so a stock can show the same closing price for several sessions.

Key takeaways

DANGCEM traded around ₦1,035 to ₦1,067 in early October 2026, up about 75 percent for the year and about 10 percent below its May peak. Judge the price using earnings, P/E, dividend yield and volatility, and always check live data before trading.
