How to Write a Clear Product Page for a Forex Indicator or EA
Last checked: 12 October 2026. This guide draws on the MetaTrader 5 Help seller page, reports of MetaQuotes Market description rules and CFTC and FTC guidance on trading-system advertising. Rules differ by platform and country. This is not legal advice.
A product page has one job: help a trader decide, honestly, whether your tool fits what they need. Pages that try to excite instead of inform attract the wrong buyers, produce refund requests and, on some platforms, get removed. This guide shows what a clear page contains, how to write each part and what to leave out.
Start with the problem, not the technology
Begin with a single sentence that says what the tool does and for whom. Compare these two openings:
- Weak: “The ultimate AI-powered indicator that finds winning entries.”
- Clear: “A swing-level indicator for MT5 that marks recent highs and lows on your chart, so you do not have to draw them by hand.”
The second tells the trader exactly what they get. It makes no promise about results, so there is nothing to defend later.
The parts of a good page
- Summary line. What it is and what it does, in one or two sentences.
- Who it is for. Which style of trader benefits, and who should not buy it.
- Features. A short list in plain words: what appears on the chart, what alerts exist and what inputs you can change.
- How it works. The rule in simple terms. For a swing indicator, say how a swing is defined and that confirmation takes a few bars. Honest descriptions of delay build more trust than silence.
- Screenshots. Real screenshots of the real tool, with captions that say the symbol, timeframe and date.
- Settings. A table of inputs, defaults and what each does.
- Requirements. Platform (MT5, not MT4), minimum build, account types and any limits such as a particular timeframe.
- Installation. Three to five steps.
- Limitations. What it does not do. This section is rare and valuable.
- Risk statement. A plain notice that trading carries risk and that the tool does not guarantee results.
- Version history. Dates and changes.
- Support and refund terms. How to get help, how quickly you reply and what refund policy applies.

Platform rules that shape the page
If you sell on the MQL5 Market, the MetaTrader 5 help says the rules prohibit products containing profit promises, that screenshots should be high quality with text in English, and that each tab contains recommendations for description design. A report by FX News Group on MetaQuotes’ rules says descriptions must not link to third-party resources, must not point customers to messenger groups for support, and that custom panels with broker affiliate links or sponsored text labels on charts are not allowed. MetaQuotes also says it can remove products from the showcase without explaining which recommendation was violated. Another rule quoted by sellers treats near-identical products with slightly changed descriptions as spam. Read the live rules before writing.
If you sell on your own site, no one enforces those rules but regulators and payment providers do, and your reputation does.
Words and claims to avoid
- Guaranteed, risk-free, never loses, 95 percent accuracy. Nobody can promise these, and regulators have acted against sellers who made unsupported earnings claims.
- “Non-repainting” without evidence. If you claim it, explain how you tested it, and describe any confirmation delay.
- Screenshots of a single winning trade presented as typical. Selective screenshots mislead even when each one is real.
- Fake countdown timers and “only 3 left” for a digital product. Digital stock is unlimited, so the claim is false.
- Testimonials you cannot verify. Do not invent reviews or use stock photos for fake customers.
Showing results honestly
If you show performance, label every number: tested or live, which period, which symbol, which settings and what costs were included. The CFTC has said hypothetical results must come with a specific warning about their limitations when futures and options systems are advertised, and it has taken action against sellers who presented hypothetical results as real. The FTC has taken action against a trading software seller for theoretical earnings charts. The next articles in this series cover how to record a demo and how to publish test results properly.
Write for scanning
- Use short paragraphs and clear headings. Many buyers skim.
- Put the price, the licence terms and the trial option near the top.
- Use the words traders use, such as timeframe, buffer, alert and repaint, and explain any that a beginner may not know.
- Include a short FAQ built from real support questions.
A skeleton you can copy
Product name: Swing Levels for MT5
Summary: Marks recent swing highs and lows as horizontal lines on the chart.
For: traders who draw support and resistance by hand and want it automated.
Not for: anyone looking for ready-made buy or sell signals.
Features
- Lines for the last N swing highs and lows
- Adjustable strength (bars on each side)
- Optional popup alert when price touches a level
How it works
A swing high is a bar whose high is above the highs of N bars on each side.
Levels are confirmed N bars after they form, so they appear with a delay.
Requirements: MetaTrader 5, any symbol, any timeframe.
Installation: 1) ... 2) ... 3) ...
Limitations: levels are single prices, not zones; broken levels stay on the chart.
Risk notice: Trading involves risk of loss. This tool does not guarantee results.
Support: reply within 2 working days. Refund policy: see terms.
Check the page before publishing
- Could a reader tell, in ten seconds, what the tool does?
- Is every claim something you can prove?
- Are screenshots current and labelled?
- Does the page mention the main limitation?
- Does it follow the platform’s description rules?
What we could not confirm
- Which page layout converts best for MT5 tools. We found no reliable public data.
- The exact current wording of the Market description rules. Check them live.
Frequently asked questions
Should I include a video? A short walkthrough helps. The next article covers recording one honestly.
How long should the page be? Long enough to answer the questions buyers ask, and no longer.
Key takeaways
Describe the job, show real screenshots with captions, state limitations and risk plainly, avoid every kind of promise and follow the platform’s description rules.
